Question:
Can I show life’s struggles through photography
using water/reflectivity?
Define the scope of investigation (purpose /
intended meaning): I will
interview members of my family and talk with them about current problems that
they, or we, are dealing with. I will
then create a series of dynamic photographs that will relate to a specific
problem/problems that they (or we) are dealing with at this stage in life and
incorporate water and/or reflective objects in each photo.
Define your approach (change in studio
practice(s), convergent or divergent): I will use lighting, photo affect tools, props, location, time
of day and words to achieve my desired look for my photographs.
Define your strategies (models, concepts,
brainstorming, creative techniques): I
will begin by exploring photographs online and determining common factors that
make for impacting pictures. I will
search out books/videos of professional artist in these fields and explore
their techniques. I will then use my
gained knowledge to form and execute a
series of successful photographs.
Which critical framework(s) will you use to
critique the work and identify if it was successful. Describe: I will use a formal critical framework to
evaluate the beauty of each piece. I
will carefully explore and manipulate every photo taken to achieve my desired
look. I will then post, what I feel, are
my most successful pictures online and have my peers critique them.
Think of the following:
Media:photography
Scale (size): 8x10, 5x7,4x6, or various
Materials, support structure, &
presentation: I will
frame my works for display.
Formal Techniques: I will be using a Canon T3 camera, use
iphoto to manipulate the pictures and have the final products printed at the
photo lab in the art’s building.
Plan for visual research (include
direct or indirect resources): I
will use site like Tumblr, Pinterest and general Google searches to find
remarkable meaningful photographs. I
will also be exploring books from the library and digital media about artist
and photography. I will also begin
taking a lot of pictures to work with my camera’s features.
Define the scope of investigation (purpose /
intended meaning): Alcoholism affects many families in America. I want to show how something as common as
alcohol can change a person.
Define your approach (change in studio
practice(s), convergent or divergent): I am going to use liquid to manipulate the appearance of
face. Depending on the object used to
hold the liquid, the face will become distorted in different ways. The juxtaposition of the liquid deforming
some of the face against the literal face, will show the power that a liquid
can have on changing someone’s life.
Define your strategies (models, concepts,
brainstorming, creative techniques): I
will pull from my 15 years of active outreach in communities and remember the
story’s told of how drinking ruined people’s lives and change the person
forever. I will inner reflect on my
father’s alcohol problem and how he is a changed man while drinking. I will then research using different methods
of using liquid and how someone looks through the liquid.
Which critical framework(s) will you use to
critique the work and identify if it was successful. Describe: I will upload the pictures to Facebook for a
broad scope critique from my peers. I
will also ask my parents for their input.
Think of the following:
Media: Photography
Scale (size): 8x10 minimum
Materials, support structure, &
presentation: I will
print the pictures using the upstairs lab in the art’s building, matte and
frame the photos for display. I am also
considering making a book.
Formal Techniques: I will take the best pictures possible
using all resources at my disposal.
Plan for visual research (include
direct or indirect resources): Google
images search, Tumblr and any other venue where familes in need of healing from
alcohol are located (AA, churches, support groups).
Define the scope of investigation (purpose /
intended meaning): I want to
create a photo that shows life can exist in circumstance of oxygen-depleted
environments (underwater). I want this
picture to engage the viewer to understand that even if you are drowning in
problems, you’re still alive.
Define your approach (change in studio
practice(s), convergent or divergent): I will be using reflectivity, low contrast and lighting to set
the them.
Define your strategies (models, concepts,
brainstorming, creative techniques): I
will begin brainstorming situations that could be reflected underwater. I will start by researching photos of people
taken in water, underwater, etc. I will
start creating mini lab experiments using water as the common factor, and see
how I can manipulate a photo of someone under water.
Which critical framework(s) will you use to
critique the work and identify if it was successful. Describe: I will upload the pictures to Facebook and
have my peers critique them to help me determine which ones are the most
successful.
Think of the following:
Media: photography
Scale (size): 8x10
Materials, support structure, &
presentation: pictures
will be printed upstairs in the photo lab inside the arts building, matted and
then framed. I will include a hanger for
the back.
Formal Techniques: I will use all resources available for the
most dynamic photograph.
Plan for visual research (include
direct or indirect resources): I
will research pictures depicting people in water. I will the start processing my own
experiments using full submergence in water.
